Eggplant

Eggplant; Black Beauty; Heirloom; Dated 2020 (Unopened bag)

Jan. 17th: I soaked the seeds for 10 minutes, added seed starter to the grow bags, watered the soil with warm water so it was moist, then added 3 seeds per bag about 1/4" deep. I then placed the seed bags into an aluminum plan, covered it with plastic wrap and aluminum foil (for darkness). I placed the pan under the kitchen counter lights to keep them warm because the warming pad is somewhere else - need to find it.

I decided to use 4.2"x4.2" fabric grow bags. I bought 100 for about $10 from Amazon and you can find them anywhere.

Why did I chose the fabric grow bags? I read a lot of information about seeds and mold. It seems to me that if the soil has more air - you'll have less mold. The trade off might be that the bags dry out easier; so, my plan is to watch the seeds closely for drying out. Pretty simple huh? Remember, this is supposed to be fun.

Miracle-Gro Seed Starter: I decide to use this because I have always had luck with Miracle Gro. I bought an 8 quart bag for about $7 from Lowe's. Maybe in the future I will learn to make my own seed starter - but, not today my friend.

What I learned: In the future, I will turn down the sides of the grow bags for two reasons: (1) I will use less seed starter and still have room for root growth; and (2) I can unfold the sides to add more soil as the plant grows - reducing the need to pot-up.

Jan 20th: Added the heating pad

UPDATE: Jan 28th; pulled the seeds - they wouldn't germinate. Dug through the seed starter mix and found nothing going on. So, I will try again in February with the other seeds. Next time, I won't soak the seeds.
